Islami Bank Launches Khidmah Credit Card

Islami Bank Bangladesh PLC has officially launched its latest financial innovation, the Khidmah Credit Card, marking a significant expansion of the bank’s international transaction services. The unveiling took place at a formal ceremony at the Islami Bank Tower in Dhaka, attended by senior bank executives as well as representatives from international partner institutions. Bank officials emphasised that the primary aim of the initiative is to ensure secure, seamless, and efficient global financial transactions for its clientele.

The card has been introduced in collaboration with UnionPay International, a Shanghai-based global card service provider. Through this partnership, Khidmah cardholders can access a widely accepted payment network spanning approximately 183 countries and regions worldwide. The bank anticipates that the card will greatly facilitate cross-border transactions for travelling professionals, students pursuing higher education abroad, and individuals seeking medical treatment overseas.

Under the new system, customers will benefit from fast-response signal-based payment methods and point-of-sale devices for convenient bill settlements. Additionally, approved automated teller machines (ATMs) will allow cash withdrawals in accordance with regulatory guidelines. All foreign currency transactions will be conducted following directives and authorisation from the central bank, ensuring full compliance and security.

The card has been designed with the specific needs of international travellers in mind. Students can directly pay tuition fees to educational institutions, patients can settle hospital bills effortlessly, and everyday expenditures such as accommodation, transportation, and shopping can be completed without reliance on cash. This reduces the need to carry large sums of money while providing a secure and convenient payment method abroad.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by Mohammad Omar Faruk Khan, Managing Director of Islami Bank Bangladesh, as the chief guest. Special guest Kai Huiming, Head of UnionPay International Southeast Asia, joined the event. Additional dignitaries included Engineer Mohammad Jamal Uddin Majumdar, Additional Managing Director, who delivered the welcome address, alongside Dr M Kamal Uddin Jasim, Additional Managing Director, and Mohammad Rafiqul Islam and Mohammad Maksudur Rahman, Deputy Managing Directors, as well as Mohammad Mosharraf Hossain, Head of Digital Banking, among other senior officials.

Bank leadership highlighted that the introduction of the Khidmah Credit Card represents a pivotal milestone in their ongoing technology-driven transformation programme. By connecting clients to global financial infrastructure, the initiative aims to provide transparency, reliability, and security in transactions. Experts note that with increasing demand for international education, healthcare, and travel, the need for globally recognised payment solutions has never been more urgent.
