Arsenal Hold Seven-Point Lead Over City

As the English Premier League title race enters its decisive stages, the tension and excitement continue to mount. Following last night’s fixtures, Arsenal have taken a temporary but significant advantage at the top of the table, capitalising on their own victory and Manchester City’s draw. At Brighton’s Falmer Stadium, Arsenal edged past the hosts 1–0, while City could only manage a 2–2 draw against relegation-threatened Nottingham Forest.

At the Etihad Stadium, City dropped two valuable points, leaving them seven points behind leaders Arsenal, though Pep Guardiola’s side have a game in hand. Arsenal now top the table with 67 points from 30 matches, while City sit second with 60 points from 29 matches.

The Brighton encounter was far from straightforward for Arsenal. The decisive goal came in the 9th minute when Bukayo Saka’s shot slipped through goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen’s legs. Despite the scoreline, Brighton dominated in terms of possession and shots on goal. Arsenal’s unbeaten run away from home now stretches to 12 matches across all competitions (9 wins, 3 draws), marking the longest away unbeaten streak under coach Mikel Arteta. Arsenal last lost on an opponent’s ground on 6 December at Villa Park.

Arteta praised his team post-match, saying, “The last few weeks have been intense, and this match was a tough test. Every Premier League fixture presents a unique challenge. The effort and commitment from the players have been outstanding.”

Meanwhile, Nottingham Forest proved resilient against City. Anthony Semenyo gave City the lead in the 31st minute, only for Morgan Gibbs-White to equalise in the 56th. City regained the lead through Rodri six minutes later, but Elliot Anderson levelled again in the 76th minute, ensuring both sides shared the points.

Guardiola reflected: “There are still many matches to play, and we have one game less than Arsenal. Our focus is always on the next fixture. Overall, it was a good performance with positive elements. There’s room for improvement, but it’s a solid display.”

Elsewhere, Manchester United’s interim coach Michael Carrick suffered his first defeat, losing 2–1 at St James’ Park against ten-man Newcastle. Newcastle’s Jacob Ramsey was sent off in stoppage time for a second yellow card. Chelsea recorded a 4–1 win over fourth-placed Aston Villa, moving up to fifth and pushing Liverpool down to sixth.

Arsenal’s seven-point lead may offer some comfort, but the title race remains far from over with several fixtures still to be played. Their consistency away from home could prove decisive in the final stretch of the campaign.
