Husband Alleges Wife’s Serial Deception

In Faridpur’s Sadarupur Upazila, a local imam, Md. Arif Billah, held a press conference on Sunday (8 March) accusing his wife, Labiba Akter, and her family of orchestrating a series of deceptions, intimidation, and filing multiple false legal cases against him. The conference was held at the Sadarupur Upazila Digital Press Club.

Arif Billah, a resident of Rajpat area in Kashiani Upazila, Gopalganj, stated that he had married Labiba Akter, daughter of Lutfor Rahman Molla of Lakhar Kandi, Sadarupur, on 1 October 2019, following family arrangements. The couple have three children together.

According to Arif, on 10 February 2022, while he was leading prayers at his mosque, Labiba left the family home with their children and later joined another man. He claims that investigations through the court revealed a history of similar incidents involving Labiba, in which she allegedly deceived multiple men for financial gain.

He presented a chronology of her alleged past activities:

Year Alleged Husband Allegation Amount Obtained
2012 Monir Hossain, Nagarkanda Marriage followed by dowry demand BDT 260,000 (through court)
2015 Maulana Tarikul Islam, Rajbari Marriage scam; dowry obtained BDT 250,000 approx.
2022 Md. Arif Billah, Faridpur Dowry-related lawsuits (2 cases later dismissed) N/A
2023 Current case, Madaripur CR No-233 Pending dowry-related case; elderly parents and siblings also implicated N/A

Arif further alleged that Labiba had invested funds obtained from these schemes with various local individuals on interest, citing BDT 900,000 with Rokhsana Begum and BDT 850,000 with Hannan Molla. He also claimed that recently Labiba, accompanied by a few YouTubers, visited his residence demanding a substantial sum of money and threatened to distribute defamatory images if he did not comply. A written complaint regarding this incident has been submitted to the local police.

“I am socially and mentally devastated by the repeated deception orchestrated by this woman and her family,” Arif told the press. “I urge the authorities to conduct a thorough investigation and deliver justice.”

Labiba Akter and her family have not issued any comment regarding these allegations. Sadarupur Police Station Officer-in-Charge, Abdul Al Mamun Shah, stated that neither the complainant nor the accused has yet filed any written or verbal complaint. “If a complaint is submitted, it will be investigated seriously and necessary legal action will follow,” he added.
