Rapper Badshah Faces Arrest Over Controversial Song

Renowned musician and rapper Badshah has found himself embroiled in controversy following the release of his latest track “Totiri”, performed in the Haryanvi language. The song has drawn widespread criticism for allegedly containing obscene references to women, prompting formal complaints from the Haryana Women’s Commission.

An official complaint has already been lodged at the local police station, leading to the issuance of a look-out notice against the artist. In response to the public uproar, Badshah has issued a public apology, acknowledging the concerns raised by listeners and authorities. However, he has failed to present himself at the police station as required under the investigation, escalating tensions between the rapper and the authorities.

The situation has led the Haryana Women’s Commission to demand the immediate arrest of Badshah. Renu Bhatia, the Commission’s president, emphasised that the song insults women from Haryana and stressed the need for accountability. “We have formally requested that Badshah be arrested by any means necessary. Such disrespectful content cannot go unpunished,” she said.

Police officials have clarified that Badshah’s passport has been seized, preventing him from leaving the country. This measure ensures that he remains under the jurisdiction of law enforcement while the investigation continues. Despite these precautions, the rapper’s absence at the police station has heightened calls for stricter action from the Women’s Commission.

Authorities had requested Badshah to appear before the Commission prior to 13 March, but he did not comply, resulting in the filing of a First Information Report (FIR). The ongoing case reflects the growing scrutiny of lyrical content in the Indian music industry, particularly in relation to depictions of gender and morality.

This controversy underscores the increasing accountability artists face regarding content that may be perceived as offensive. While Badshah’s public apology has drawn attention, the Commission insists that formal legal action remains essential to uphold the dignity and respect of women in Haryana.
