Man Injured in Machete Attack After Protesting Drug Trade in Fatullah

In a shocking incident in Narayanganj, a local resident was brutally attacked on Sunday morning for attempting to intervene in illegal drug activities. The attack occurred in the Jamtala Dhopapatti area of Fatulla town, prompting the victim to file a written complaint with Fatulla Model Police Station.

The victim, Shyamal Das, 55, resides in a rented accommodation in Jamtala Dhopapatti but originally hails from Isdair, a locality in Narayanganj Sadar. In his complaint, Das stated that several individuals in the area were actively involved in drug trafficking. He had repeatedly attempted to deter their operations, which reportedly angered them and led to threats and intimidation over time.

Details of the Assault

According to the complaint, at approximately 8:30 a.m., a group of 10–12 men, including suspects Miraj and Arafat, arrived at Das’s residence armed with sharp weapons. The group verbally abused him and, when he protested, physically assaulted him. During the attack, Miraj allegedly struck Das on the head with a sharp machete, causing serious injuries. Arafat attempted to strike him with a cleaver, which Das blocked with his hand, resulting in a severe cut to his left ring finger. Other assailants reportedly attacked him indiscriminately with iron rods, steel pipes, and sticks.

Local residents intervened, forcing the attackers to flee. Before leaving, they reportedly threatened Das with death should he file a legal case against them. Shyamal Das was subsequently taken to Narayanganj Government Hospital in Khanpur for urgent medical treatment.
