In a tragic development near Jahangirnagar University, the husband of the deceased student, Fahim Al Hasan, has been remanded to prison following the discovery of his wife’s bloodied body in their rented accommodation. The court also scheduled a remand hearing for 24 March.
On Monday, Senior Judicial Magistrate Ayesha Siddiqua of Dhaka issued the order, directing Fahim Al Hasan to be sent to Keraniganj Jail. Prior to this, the police had requested a five-day remand to facilitate further questioning.
Ashulia Police Station’s Deputy Inspector (SI) Md. Shahiduzzaman told Prothom Alo that the court had been petitioned for a five-day remand. However, the magistrate opted to schedule the remand hearing for 24 March and ordered the accused to be sent to prison in the meantime.
The incident came to light last Sunday afternoon when Sharmin Jahan, a student of the 51st batch of the Public Administration Department at Jahangirnagar University, was found in a critical condition at their rented flat in Savar. She was rushed to hospital but was declared dead on arrival. Fahim Al Hasan was immediately detained for questioning in connection with the case.
Subsequently, Sharmin Jahan’s uncle, Monirul Islam, filed a formal case at Ashulia Police Station that same night. Following the registration of the case, Fahim Al Hasan was produced before the court on Monday morning, resulting in the remand order.
