Young Man Dies After Train Roof Collision with Bridge

A tragic incident occurred on Thursday, 19 March, in Kalikapur, Kalukhali, Rajbari District, when an unidentified young man lost his life after hitting a railway bridge while travelling on the roof of a local train. The fatal accident took place around midday as the train was en route to Gowalanda Ghat from Poradah.

According to the Railway Police, the local shuttle train was nearing the Kalikapur Railway Bridge when the young man, who was on the roof of the carriage, struck the bridge. He fell onto the top of the train and sustained fatal injuries. Upon the train’s arrival at Kalukhali Junction, railway police, assisted by station staff and local residents, recovered the body from the roof.

Ratan Sen, Assistant Station Master at Kalukhali Junction, confirmed the grim discovery, stating that the deceased was found atop the train as it entered the station. The body was subsequently secured at the station and reported to Rajbari Railway Police Station.

Sub-Inspector Liton of Rajbari Railway Police provided further details, explaining that the collision occurred as the train passed under the Kalikapur railway bridge. He added that the young man suffered severe trauma due to the impact and could not survive. Police are investigating the incident and attempting to identify the victim.

Officials have strongly reiterated that travelling on the roof of trains is extremely dangerous and illegal, warning passengers against such practices. Despite repeated warnings, rooftop travel remains a risky choice for many, particularly on local shuttle trains in rural areas.
