Nephew Fatally Attacked by Aunt in Brahmanbaria

Brahmanbaria, 20 March 2026 – A 30-year-old man, Suman Mia, was fatally attacked in a domestic dispute in Surail Upazila, Brahmanbaria, on Thursday afternoon. The shocking incident occurred in Dattapara village of Kalikachha Union and has sent ripples of distress through the local community.

According to police and local sources, the altercation began around 3:00 pm when a minor dispute over the placement of a motorcycle near the boundary of residential properties escalated. Members of Suman Mia’s family reportedly came into conflict with relatives of expatriate Sattar Mia, triggering a heated verbal exchange that rapidly turned violent.

Eyewitnesses allege that Romena Begum, 30, wife of Sattar Mia, armed with a cleaver, struck Suman Mia multiple times on his hands and chest. Severely injured, Suman Mia was initially taken to the Surail Upazila Health Complex by locals and subsequently transferred to Brahmanbaria District Sadar Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.

Following the attack, Romena Begum fled the scene. Police, however, apprehended her 65-year-old mother-in-law, Banu Ara Begum, in connection with the incident. Authorities are actively searching for Romena Begum to bring her to justice.

Surail Police Station Officer-in-Charge, Monzur Qader Bhuiya, confirmed that the victim’s body has been kept in the district hospital morgue. “An operation is underway to apprehend all individuals involved. As of 9:30 pm Thursday, no formal case has yet been filed,” he stated.

The incident highlights the potential for minor domestic disagreements to escalate into lethal confrontations, emphasising the need for timely intervention and conflict resolution within communities. Local leaders have called for calm and urged residents to allow law enforcement to conduct a thorough investigation.
