Ahmed Hasan Sunny has marked his birthday on 26 March in an unconventional yet fitting manner—by unveiling a major creative venture that places him at the heart of an upcoming high-profile film soundtrack. The singer-songwriter will serve as one of the principal composers and lyricists for Rockstar, a new feature film starring popular Bangladeshi actor Shakib Khan.
The project carries personal significance for Sunny, as it brings together both professional and familial collaborations. His wife, Nusrat Maati, is responsible for writing the screenplay, making Rockstar a rare instance of a husband-and-wife creative partnership shaping the film’s core narrative and musical identity. Adding to this creative triangle is director Azman Rusho, a long-time friend of Sunny since their formative years in the underground music scene.
Sunny described the collaboration as both emotional and unexpected. According to him, Rusho approached him personally for the project, emphasising a desire for authenticity in the film’s musical direction. Their shared history—rooted in contrasting musical backgrounds, with Rusho leaning towards hip-hop and Sunny emerging from rock and underground influences—has helped shape a creative synergy that now finds expression in a mainstream cinematic production.
Reflecting on the offer, Sunny noted that he never imagined being part of a Shakib Khan-starrer production, given his non-mainstream musical identity. However, he expressed deep appreciation for the trust placed in him, describing it as a recognition of artistic vision rather than commercial positioning.
The soundtrack of Rockstar is shaping up to be extensive and diverse. Around 90 per cent of the recording work has already been completed, with the film expected to feature between 8 and 10 tracks. Multiple vocalists will contribute to the album, ensuring a varied musical experience that spans genres.
Music production is being overseen by Jahid Nirob, while Sunny plays a multi-layered role across composition, lyric writing, and occasional playback singing.
Sunny has confirmed that his involvement varies from track to track—sometimes he writes lyrics, sometimes he composes, and in several cases he undertakes both roles. Although he may also perform vocals on one or more songs, he emphasised that final decisions are still in progress.
The soundtrack is expected to include a broad stylistic range, from romantic ballads to rock-infused numbers and even folk-inspired compositions, reflecting the film’s ambition to appeal to a wide audience base.
