The deadline for submitting income tax returns in Bangladesh will expire tomorrow, Tuesday, following multiple extensions earlier in the fiscal year. Taxpayers now have only two days—today and tomorrow—to submit their returns. Authorities are urging individuals to act promptly to avoid penalties or delays.
All submissions must be made online through the platform operated by the National Board of Revenue. Taxpayers are advised to collect any necessary documents today, including income statements, investment records, and other relevant papers, to ensure smooth filing.
Currently, Bangladesh has more than 12.5 million individuals holding Taxpayer Identification Numbers (TINs). Any individual with taxable income is required to submit a return. Compliance is rising, but authorities continue to encourage timely submissions.
According to the National Board of Revenue, over 4.15 million taxpayers have already submitted their returns online. Additionally, more than 5 million have registered on the e-return platform.
| Category | Number of Taxpayers |
|---|---|
| Total TIN holders | 12.5 million+ |
| Registered online users | 5 million+ |
| Returns submitted online | 4.15 million+ |
Taxpayers must first register on the official portal using a valid mobile number. Individuals residing abroad receive registration verification via email. After logging in with a secure password, users can complete the return forms.
The forms require declaration of annual income and expenditure, calculation of taxable income after applying exemptions, and inclusion of any tax rebates or reliefs, such as those from investments. Taxpayers with assets exceeding 50 lakh taka or owning major properties like houses or vehicles must also submit an asset statement.
Payments can be made directly online using bank transfers, debit or credit cards, or mobile financial services such as bKash, Rocket, or Nagad.
Taxpayers unable to meet the deadline can apply for an extension via the e-return system by selecting the ‘time extension’ option before 31 March. The relevant tax commissioner will approve or reject applications online. Approved taxpayers may receive up to 90 additional days to submit their returns without facing fines or additional taxes.
Authorities are urging all taxpayers to either submit their returns immediately or apply for an extension to ensure full compliance with national tax regulations.
