Renowned singer Pantha Kanai is preparing to expand his artistic horizons with his acting debut in the upcoming film Rockstar. Known for his soulful voice and emotive performances, Kanai will not only act in the film but also contribute to its soundtrack, promising a combination of on-screen presence and musical artistry. In an exclusive interview with Emdadul Haque Milton, he spoke candidly about his latest single, upcoming film, and future projects.
Kanai recently released Abar Chumki, a reimagined version of his earlier hit Chumki Choleche Eka Poth. On the song’s reception, he shared:
“The response has been overwhelming. The original song has a special place in people’s hearts, and even its previous remake was well-loved. With Abar Chumki, we carefully planned every aspect, and releasing it during the festive season has added to its joy.”
On how this version differs from the original, he explained:
“We aimed to retain the original’s essence while giving it a fresh feel for a new generation. The music and arrangement are modern, yet the video evokes the nostalgia of the 1960s and ’70s, creating a seamless blend of old and new.”
Kanai also appeared in the music video himself, noting:
“I mostly focus on singing, but being in front of the camera is a different and enjoyable experience. The video had a playful, fun mood, which made it all the more exciting.”
Kanai described his involvement in Rockstar as a major milestone:
“Acting alongside Shakib Khan is a fantastic opportunity. Sharing the screen with such a superstar is inspiring, and I am eager to learn from the experience. The director has explained my character in detail, and I hope audiences appreciate our work. The film tells an engaging story of a rockstar’s rise and challenges, entirely fictional yet relatable in parts.”
Addressing speculation about the film being a biopic, Kanai clarified that it is a purely fictional story with no direct connection to any real-life individual.
Kanai also discussed plans for his music school Drumbaz, which had paused during the pandemic:
“I am committed to teaching the next generation how to sing, play the guitar, and drums. Though my schedule is busy, the dream continues.”
He is also preparing for Rockstar’s filming, scheduled for the second week of next month, alongside developing new musical projects.
