Illegal Fuel Stock Seized in Dhaka

A special operation conducted by the National Security Intelligence (NSI) has led to the recovery of 450 litres of illegally stockpiled fuel from the Kuril Bishwa Road area in the capital. One individual has been detained in connection with the incident, amid suspicions of illicit fuel trading during a period of heightened market pressure.

According to official sources, the raid was carried out following intelligence inputs suggesting that a small-scale but organised stockpiling operation was taking place in a residential-commercial zone near Kuril. Acting on this information, officers from the National Security Intelligence conducted a targeted search operation at the suspected premises.

During the raid, authorities recovered a total of 450 litres of fuel, comprising both diesel and octane. The seized fuel was allegedly stored without proper authorisation or safety compliance, raising concerns about potential fire hazards as well as economic irregularities in the local fuel distribution chain.

A man identified as Md. Belal Hossain was apprehended at the scene. Preliminary assessments suggest that he may have been involved in hoarding fuel with the intention of selling it at inflated prices, taking advantage of intermittent supply pressures in the local market. However, investigators have stated that a full inquiry is underway to determine the extent of his involvement and whether additional individuals are connected to the operation.

Authorities emphasised that illegal fuel storage not only distorts market stability but also poses significant public safety risks, particularly in densely populated urban areas such as Dhaka. Officials have indicated that further legal proceedings will be initiated under relevant statutes governing fuel distribution, trade licensing, and public safety regulations.

The detained individual is currently under custody, and his statements are being verified as part of the ongoing investigation. Law enforcement agencies have also not ruled out the possibility of a wider network involved in similar practices across the city.

Details of Recovered Fuel

Type of Fuel Quantity Recovered Suspected Purpose
Diesel 200 litres Illegal resale at higher prices
Octane 250 litres Hoarding for black-market supply

Officials have reiterated their commitment to curbing illegal fuel trading activities, particularly during periods of supply uncertainty, and have called for increased vigilance to prevent similar incidents in the future.
