The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has initiated fresh steps to address the growing uncertainty surrounding the Dhaka Premier League, as concerns mount over the delayed start of the country’s most significant domestic one-day competition. With players increasingly voicing frustration over the lack of clarity, the board has now called an urgent meeting with all Dhaka-based clubs in an attempt to break the ongoing deadlock.
For many cricketers, the Dhaka Premier League represents a crucial source of annual income, often forming a substantial portion of their earnings and playing opportunities outside the national team structure. However, this season has been marked by delay and confusion, with uncertainty remaining over whether the tournament will begin on schedule—or take place at all.
Tensions between Dhaka-based sports organisers and the cricket board, reportedly linked to disputes surrounding the most recent administrative elections, have further complicated the situation. These disagreements have contributed to an atmosphere of mistrust, leaving clubs, players, and officials uncertain about the way forward.
In response to the growing concerns, the BCB’s Committee of Cricket Management (CCDM) has formally invited all Dhaka Premier League clubs to attend a decisive meeting scheduled for 8 April. The meeting is set to take place at Mirpur at 12:00 noon and is expected to focus on resolving logistical, administrative, and governance-related issues that have stalled preparations for the league.
Meanwhile, player welfare representatives have also stepped into the discussion. Just days earlier, the Cricket Welfare Association of Bangladesh (CWAB) sent formal correspondence to BCB President Aminul Islam Bulbul and CCDM Chairman Adnan Rahman Dipon. In their letter, they urged immediate action to resume domestic cricket activities and emphasised the importance of ensuring that players are not financially or professionally disadvantaged by prolonged delays.
The current impasse has sparked widespread debate within Bangladesh’s cricketing community. Many players have taken to social media to express their dissatisfaction, warning that continued uncertainty could disrupt career planning, fitness preparation, and financial stability. Club organisers, too, are believed to be divided on how best to proceed, given the unresolved disagreements with the board.
The Dhaka Premier League traditionally serves as a cornerstone of Bangladesh’s domestic cricket structure, bridging the gap between club cricket and international representation. Its postponement not only affects players’ livelihoods but also impacts selectors’ ability to assess form ahead of international fixtures.
| Date/Period | Event | Significance |

| Two days prior | CWAB sends letter to BCB President and CCDM Chairman | Urged immediate resumption of domestic cricket |

As the scheduled meeting approaches, attention now turns to whether the involved parties can reach a compromise that allows the Dhaka Premier League to proceed without further disruption. For players and supporters alike, the outcome will be decisive in determining the direction of domestic cricket in Bangladesh for the remainder of the season.
