The comments were made by senior military adviser Mohsen Rezaei in response to what he described as American threats concerning the possible obstruction or control of maritime passage through the Strait of Hormuz. Rezaei asserted that the United States would be unable to achieve success in any naval blockade scenario. Rezaei previously served for many years as the commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) before retiring and later returning to public service. He is currently reported to be serving in an advisory capacity linked to Iran’s highest levels of leadership under Mojtaba Khamenei.
