Land Dispute in Manikganj: Elder Brother Killed by Younger Sibling

Singair, Manikganj: A long-standing land dispute in the Singair Municipality of Manikganj district turned fatal as an elder brother was killed during a clash with his younger brother. The victim’s son was also injured and is currently undergoing treatment.

The deceased, identified as Khandaker Nazrul Islam (62), was a resident of Golra village in Ward No. 5 of Singair Municipality and the son of the late Gias Uddin Khandaker. His son, Khandaker Ovi (28), sustained serious injuries during the attack.

Details of the Incident

The bloody clash occurred on Friday (April 24) at approximately 3:30 PM. According to local sources and witnesses:

• Background: A dispute over land had been ongoing between Nazrul Islam and his younger brother, Khandaker Wahed, along with his nephews.

• The Provocation: To resolve the issue, local elders organized a mediation meeting (Salishi Baithak) at their residence on Friday afternoon. When the mediators called upon the accused, Khandaker Wahed and his associates, they became incensed and launched an abrupt attack.

• The Assault: During the chaos, a neighbor’s son named Nishad (18) took the side of the accused and kicked Nazrul Islam with great force, causing him to collapse. Simultaneously, Nazrul’s son, Ovi, was struck with bricks, leaving him bloodied and wounded.

Medical Response and Fatality

Locals rescued the injured and rushed them to the Singair Upazila Health Complex. As Nazrul Islam’s condition deteriorated, the attending physician referred him to Enam Medical College Hospital in Savar for advanced treatment. Upon arrival at Enam Medical, doctors pronounced him dead. Ovi Khandaker remains under treatment at the Upazila Health Complex.

Legal Action and Current Situation

The accused, Wahed Khandaker, and his family members have been in hiding since the incident. When contacted at 9:58 PM, the Duty Officer of Singair Police Station stated:

“The police authorities are aware of the incident. A team has already been dispatched to the scene. Legal proceedings regarding this homicide are currently underway.”

The incident has sparked intense tension and grief throughout the area. Local residents have demanded the immediate arrest and exemplary punishment of those involved in this brutal killing.
