Suspect Arrested at Trump Dinner Event

A 31-year-old schoolteacher has been detained by law enforcement authorities following a shooting incident at a high-profile dinner attended by former U.S. President Donald Trump in Washington, D.C. The suspect, identified as Cole Thomas Allen, is a resident of Torrance, California, and is reported to have posed as a hotel guest in advance of the event.

According to police, Allen had rented a room at the Washington Hilton hotel prior to the evening gathering, allegedly positioning himself strategically before attempting to breach security. Upon apprehension, officers recovered a shotgun, a handgun, and multiple knives from his possession.

The incident unfolded on Saturday night when Allen reportedly forced his way into a restricted area of the venue. Law enforcement officers quickly intervened, subduing him and placing him in handcuffs. Images released after the arrest show the suspect lying face down as officers secured him.

Authorities have filed multiple charges against Allen, including the use of firearms in a violent crime and assault with a dangerous weapon on a federal officer. Federal prosecutor Jeanine Pirro confirmed that he faces at least two counts related to firearms offences, with additional charges potentially forthcoming as investigations progress. He is expected to appear in court on Monday.

During the confrontation, an exchange of gunfire occurred between the suspect and a police officer. One officer sustained injuries but survived due to wearing a bulletproof vest. Acting Metropolitan Police Chief Jeffrey Carroll stated that officers acted swiftly to neutralise the threat.

Eyewitness accounts further detail the intensity of the situation. Journalist Wolf Blitzer, who was present at the venue, reported hearing multiple gunshots and described the weapon as “substantial.” He indicated that approximately six rounds were fired during the incident.

Following the gunfire, security personnel immediately evacuated Trump, who had been preparing to take the stage. Though he reportedly stumbled while being escorted, he was safely removed from the premises. Several senior officials were also present, including Vice President JD Vance, Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth, and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, all of whom were secured without harm.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), under Director Kash Patel, has launched a joint investigation alongside the Secret Service. Forensic teams recovered a long firearm and multiple shell casings from the scene, while investigators continue gathering testimony from witnesses.

Preliminary findings suggest that Allen had no declared political affiliation at the time of voter registration. However, records from the Federal Election Commission indicate that he later made a $25 donation in October 2024 via ActBlue, a political action committee that supports Democratic candidates, including former presidential candidate Kamala Harris.

Allen’s background reveals a strong academic record. He graduated in 2017 with a degree in mechanical engineering from California Institute of Technology and later obtained a master’s degree in computer science from California State University, Dominguez Hills.

Neighbours in Torrance described Allen and his family as quiet and courteous, having moved into the area approximately six months ago. One neighbour noted that the family maintained a low profile and interacted politely with those nearby.

Despite the disruption, Trump has announced that the postponed event will be rescheduled within 30 days, stating that the administration would not yield to acts of violence or intimidation.
