Authorities in Tongi, Gazipur, have recovered the bodies of a father and his son from two separate locations within the same household area, prompting an intensive police investigation into a suspected double homicide.
The incident occurred on Sunday (26 April) in the North Bonomala area. The deceased have been identified as Sohail Rana (48) and his son Sakibur Rahman Shoeb (17), a student of a college in Uttara, Dhaka. Sakibur was reportedly studying in the first year of higher secondary level and also engaged in part-time work alongside his studies.
Police also detained another son of Sohail Rana, Saifur Rahman (27), for questioning in connection with the incident. He is currently being held in custody as investigators examine his possible involvement.
According to local residents, Sohail Rana was previously employed overseas in Singapore and Malaysia. He had returned to Bangladesh several years ago. Following the death of his wife around a year ago, he had been living with his two sons in their family home.
Preliminary information from law enforcement suggests that Sohail Rana had a history of drug addiction, which reportedly led to ongoing domestic disputes within the family. On the night of the incident, all three—Sohail and his two sons—were staying in the same residence.
Discovery of the bodies
Police reports indicate that disturbances and screams were heard in the early hours of the morning, prompting neighbours to gather at the scene. Shortly afterwards, the body of Sakibur was found inside the house, while Sohail Rana’s body was recovered from a nearby railway track.

Investigators noted that Sakibur’s body bore multiple severe injuries, including deep wounds to the back of the head, wrist, and ankle. His mouth was reportedly stuffed with cloth, allegedly to prevent him from calling out. Police believe the nature and precision of the injuries may indicate the involvement of a calculated and possibly experienced offender, though they have not confirmed this as a definitive conclusion.
The circumstances surrounding Sohail Rana’s death remain unclear. Authorities are investigating whether his death was a suicide or whether his body was placed on the railway tracks in an attempt to stage the scene.
Ongoing investigation
Deputy Commissioner Mahbub Uddin Ahmed of the Gazipur Metropolitan Police’s Crime Division South confirmed that Saifur Rahman has been detained for questioning. He stated that both bodies have been sent to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital morgue for post-mortem examinations.
Police are currently focusing on inconsistencies in statements, possible internal family conflict, and whether any external individuals may have been involved in the incident. The investigation remains ongoing.
