BCB Announces Schedule for Dhaka Premier League

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has officially addressed the recent stagnation in domestic cricket by announcing the provisional schedule for the Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League (DPL). Following the successful completion of the player transfer window, the board confirmed in a press release that the prestigious List A tournament is set to commence on 4 May, with a projected conclusion date of 11 June.

Background and Resolution of the Impasse

The commencement of the league faced significant delays due to a prolonged administrative standoff. A majority of the cricket clubs in Dhaka had previously refused to participate in any competitions conducted under the board led by Aminul Islam. This boycott extended across the cricketing pyramid, resulting in incomplete participation in both the First Division and Second Division Cricket Leagues.

The deadlock was eventually broken following the removal of the previous board and the appointment of a BCB Ad-hoc Committee. This administrative shift facilitated renewed dialogue with the clubs, all of whom have now committed to participating in the upcoming season.

Enhanced Facilities and Logistics

In response to specific demands from both players and club officials, the BCB has implemented several logistical upgrades for the current season. Under the new arrangements, the board will assume full responsibility for the transportation and catering requirements of the participating clubs on match days. Furthermore, medical safety has been prioritised, with specialised ambulances stationed at every match venue.

To manage player workload and account for weather disruptions, the schedule includes a mandatory two-day break between each round. One day is designated for rest, while the second serves as a reserve day, a necessary contingency given that the tournament coincides with the rainy season.

Tournament Format and Venues

The competition will deviate from its traditional structure this year. As per prior decisions, there will be no Super League phase. Instead, the tournament will follow a single-league format. However, a relegation league will be held for the bottom three teams to determine which two sides will be demoted to the First Division.

A total of 69 matches are scheduled: 66 matches in the primary league phase and 3 matches in the relegation league. While the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur may host selected fixtures subject to availability, the primary matches will be distributed across six designated venues.

The BCB has indicated that a comprehensive and final fixture list will be released shortly. This resumption marks a critical step in restoring the regular calendar of Bangladeshi domestic cricket.
