Three Killed in Chittagong Road Crash

Three people have lost their lives and five others have been injured after a microbus veered off a major highway and plunged into a roadside ditch in the Lohagara upazila of Chattogram district.

The tragic accident occurred on Tuesday morning at approximately 9:15 am in the Chunati area along the Chattogram–Cox’s Bazar highway, a busy arterial route frequently used by inter-district traffic. Authorities said the identities of the deceased could not be confirmed immediately following the incident.

According to eyewitnesses, the black-coloured microbus was travelling towards Chattogram when it reached the vicinity of the Jangalia checkpoint in Chunati. The vehicle reportedly lost control suddenly, struck a roadside tree, and then overturned into a deep ditch beside the highway. The impact proved fatal for three occupants, who died at the scene.

Local residents rushed to the site shortly after the crash and began rescue efforts before emergency services arrived. The injured passengers were transported to the Lohagara Upazila Health Complex for urgent medical treatment. Their current conditions have not yet been officially disclosed.

Fire service personnel later arrived at the scene and recovered the bodies. Officials noted that the victims appeared to belong to a minority ethnic community, though their identities remain unverified pending formal identification procedures.

A senior officer from the Lohagara Fire Service confirmed the recovery operation and stated that the injured had already been taken to hospital by locals before emergency responders reached the site. Police also arrived shortly afterwards to secure the area and begin an initial investigation into the cause of the crash.

Law enforcement authorities have indicated that the microbus was travelling from Cox’s Bazar towards Khagrachhari at the time of the accident. Preliminary assessments suggest that speeding and possible loss of vehicle control may have contributed to the crash, although mechanical failure or road conditions have not been ruled out.
