A bomb-like object along with a handwritten note has been recovered by police from the banks of the Mathabhanga River in Gangni upazila of Meherpur district, prompting precautionary concern among local residents.
The incident occurred on Sunday morning (3 May) in the Char Goal village area, where the objects were found near a river ghat. According to local accounts, villagers first noticed a polythene bag lying unattended at the site. Upon closer inspection, they observed what appeared to be a red-coloured object wrapped in tape inside the bag. Suspecting it could be hazardous, they immediately raised alarm in the surrounding area.
As awareness of the discovery spread, people in the vicinity refrained from approaching the location further and informed Gangni Police Station. Following the report, police personnel were dispatched to the scene without delay to assess the situation and secure the area.
Upon arrival, law enforcement officials recovered a polythene bag containing a bomb-like object wrapped in red adhesive tape, along with a separate handwritten note. Both items were subsequently taken into police custody and transported to the police station for further examination.
The handwritten note, which was also found inside the polythene, could not be read or verified at the scene due to its condition and placement. Authorities have stated that its contents will be analysed as part of the ongoing investigation.
Police officials have confirmed that the recovered object is being treated with caution. However, its exact nature—whether it is an explosive device or a non-functional imitation—has not yet been determined. The object will be subjected to examination by relevant specialists to confirm whether it contains any explosive materials.
Gangni Police Station (Investigation Officer) Al Mamun stated that a police team was immediately sent to the location after receiving information. He confirmed that both the suspicious object and the note were recovered and brought to the police station. He further noted that the matter is being investigated with due seriousness and that necessary legal and security measures will be taken based on the findings.
Authorities have also indicated that the content of the note and its possible connection, if any, to unlawful or disruptive activity will be thoroughly examined. At present, no conclusions have been drawn regarding the purpose behind placing the items at the river ghat.
