Colombian singer Shakira performed at a large-scale open-air concert on Saturday night (2 May) at Copacabana Beach in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The free public event drew an estimated crowd of around 2 million people to the city’s iconic shoreline.
The concert began slightly later than the scheduled time, though large numbers of spectators had already assembled along the beach and surrounding areas well in advance. Attendance continued to grow as the performance approached, reflecting the scale of public interest in the event.
Shakira, aged 49, appeared on stage accompanied by a coordinated drone display in the night sky. The aerial visualisation formed the shape of her well-known stage identity, “She Wolf”, providing a visual introduction to her performance. The display was integrated into the wider production of the concert.
During her set, Shakira performed a selection of her established songs to the large audience gathered at Copacabana. The crowd included both residents of Rio de Janeiro and visitors from other regions of Brazil as well as international fans. Many attendees had travelled specifically for the event.
Among those present was Graciele Vaz, who travelled approximately four hours and arrived the night before the concert in order to secure a viewing location on the beach. Another attendee, 26-year-old designer João Pedro Yelin, spoke about Shakira’s artistic influence. He stated: “She is a leading Latin woman who inspires us. She does not confine herself to any mould, she creates art from love.”
Copacabana Beach is a recognised venue for large public gatherings and has frequently been used for major concerts and cultural events due to its capacity to accommodate extensive crowds along its long coastline. The Shakira performance continued this tradition, with open access provided to the public without ticket restrictions.
The concert highlighted both the logistical scale of events hosted at Copacabana and Shakira’s sustained global appeal as a live performer. The combination of a large audience, international attendance, and large-scale visual production made the event one of the notable recent performances at the venue.
