A complaint has been raised in Munshiganj over allegations involving the alleged misappropriation of medical equipment valued at approximately Tk 1.5 crore from a diagnostic centre, alongside claims of fraud, false cases, and threats.
On Sunday (3 May), Hajji Bashar Sarkar, owner of the “Famous Health Care and Diagnostic Centre” located at Manikpur in Munshiganj town, presented a written statement at a press conference held at the Shafiuddin Milonayatan of the Munshiganj Press Club. In his statement, he detailed the allegations against Monir Hossain, also known as “Rod Monir”, and Monir Hossain’s son, Rakibul Islam Rifat.
According to Bashar Sarkar, Monir Hossain was initially included as a partner in the operation of the diagnostic centre established within Manikpur Plaza. He stated that while the partnership initially functioned normally, the accused individuals later began to remove valuable medical equipment, furniture, and important documents from the facility without authorisation.
He further alleged that on 28 February, significant medical devices, including a “Six Max” machine and various laboratory instruments, were taken from the diagnostic centre. He claimed that subsequent enquiries revealed the equipment had been relocated to a clinic in the Panchasar area.
Bashar Sarkar stated that when he contacted the individuals concerned, they initially assured him that the equipment would be returned. However, he alleged that they later denied returning the items. He further claimed that on 3 March, when he visited their residence, he was threatened and warned of harm if legal action was pursued.
He also alleged that when an attempt was made to file a complaint at Munshiganj Sadar Police Station, it was not accepted. As a result, he later approached the court, where he filed a case including allegations of fraud, breach of trust, theft, and intimidation. He further stated that the accused individuals were operating business activities under a similar name elsewhere, which he claims has damaged the reputation of his institution and caused financial losses amounting to approximately Tk 1.5 crore.
Bashar Sarkar also expressed concern regarding the safety of himself and his family and demanded the immediate arrest of the accused, recovery of the allegedly misappropriated assets, and a proper investigation into the matter.
Family members, including his elder brother Bachu Sarkar and younger brother Zainal Sarkar, were present at the press conference.
Attempts were made to contact Monir Hossain for comment, but no response was obtained.
