A 39-year-old man has been accused of killing his wife and four children in Wazirpur, Gurugram, in the northern Indian state of Haryana. Following the incident, he allegedly attempted to take his own life by cutting his wrist with a knife. He remains in a critical condition and is undergoing treatment in hospital.
According to a report published by the Indian media outlet Anandabazar, the accused is alleged to have administered poison to his wife and four children before the fatalities occurred. The deceased include a three-year-old son and three daughters aged 14, 12, and 10. After the alleged incident, the man is said to have attempted suicide using a knife available in the house.
Police stated that the sequence of events came to light on Saturday night at around 9:30 pm when the accused’s brother returned to the residence. Upon going upstairs, he reportedly found his sister-in-law and four children lying unconscious. With the assistance of neighbours, they were immediately taken to hospital. Medical personnel later declared all five victims dead upon examination.
The family originally hailed from Moradabad in the neighbouring state of Uttar Pradesh and had been residing in rented accommodation in Wazirpur, Gurugram.
A spokesperson for Gurugram Police, Sandeep Turan, confirmed that local residents contacted the police control room after discovering the situation. Officers subsequently reached the scene and recovered the accused in a seriously injured condition from a room inside the house.
Police have stated that the exact cause of death will be confirmed after the post-mortem examination reports are received. The accused, once medically stabilised, is expected to be questioned as part of the investigation. Authorities also confirmed that communication has been maintained with the family members of the deceased woman.
