Disguised Robbery in Narayanganj

A Malaysia-based expatriate was allegedly robbed of gold ornaments by a group of individuals posing as officers of the Detective Branch (DB) of police in Siddhirganj, Narayanganj. The incident took place in the early hours of Tuesday, 5 May, at around 4:00 am near the Jalkuri overpass on the Dhaka–Narayanganj Link Road.

According to available information, the victim, Md Abdul Malek (46), was intercepted by a group of approximately seven to eight unidentified men while he was in the area under Narayanganj City Corporation Ward No. 9. The assailants reportedly identified themselves as DB police personnel, a tactic often used in similar crimes to gain control and reduce resistance from victims.

Once stopped, the perpetrators allegedly assaulted Mr Malek and forcibly took possession of his gold ornaments. It is reported that approximately eight and a half bhori of gold were stolen during the incident. After carrying out the robbery, the group fled the scene, leaving the victim behind.

Local police later confirmed that the victim approached Siddhirganj Police Station to file a complaint regarding the incident. Authorities stated that they had received preliminary details and that legal action would be initiated following a formal investigation based on the complaint.

Law enforcement agencies have previously warned about criminal gangs impersonating police officers to commit robberies, particularly during late-night or early-morning hours on relatively quiet roads. Such incidents often involve coordinated groups using intimidation and physical assault to carry out thefts quickly before escaping.
