The River Police in Narayanganj city have recovered the body of an unidentified young man from the Shitalakshya River.
The discovery was made on Wednesday morning (6 May) near the Kerosene Ghat area of the river, where the body was found floating on the water. Following the alert, a team from the Narayanganj Sadar River Police station attended the scene and retrieved the body from the river.
According to the police, the deceased has not yet been identified. His estimated age is around 30 years. No personal identification documents or confirmed details regarding his identity were found at the time of recovery.
Local residents reported that they noticed a body floating in the river during the morning hours. They subsequently informed the police, prompting a swift response from the River Police unit. After receiving the information, officers reached the location and recovered the body from the river.
Police further stated that the body appeared to have been in the water for several days, and signs of decomposition were visible. However, no visible injuries or external marks of violence were identified during the initial examination at the scene.
The body has been sent to Narayanganj General Hospital morgue for a post-mortem examination. Authorities expect that the autopsy report will assist in determining the cause of death.
Efforts are currently underway to establish the identity of the deceased. The Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) has been engaged to support the identification process. Investigators are working to determine whether any missing person reports may correspond to the recovered body.
