Tragic Road Fatality In Riyadh Claims Life Of Bangladeshi National

A sense of profound grief has enveloped the municipality of Bhanga in Faridpur following the death of Shaon Mirza, a 25-year-old Bangladeshi expatriate, in a road traffic accident in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Mr Mirza, who had promised his mother he would return home for the upcoming Eid-ul-Adha festivities, succumbed to his injuries in the early hours of Tuesday.

Incident Overview

According to family sources, the accident occurred on the evening of Monday, 4 May 2026, as Mr Mirza was travelling from his residence toward a local market on a motorcycle. He reportedly lost control of the vehicle and collided with a date palm tree situated along the roadside.

Emergency services transported him to a nearby medical facility, where he underwent treatment. However, he passed away at approximately dawn on Tuesday. His colleagues in Riyadh informed the family of the tragedy via telephone at 10:00 AM the same day.

Background and Family

Shaon Mirza was the youngest of four siblings and the only son of the late Zahid Mirza and Jhorna Begum, residents of the Naopara neighbourhood in Ward No. 2 of Bhanga Municipality. Having completed his Secondary School Certificate (SSC), he migrated to Saudi Arabia approximately two and a half years ago to seek better employment opportunities.

During his tenure in Riyadh, he was employed by a commercial enterprise and had not returned to Bangladesh since his initial departure. In a recent final communication with his mother, he expressed that video calls were no longer sufficient and confirmed his intention to arrive home before the Eid holidays.

Government Assistance and Compensation

Md. Ashik Siddique, Assistant Director of the Faridpur Expatriate Welfare Centre, confirmed that Mr Mirza was a documented worker with legal status. Consequently, his family is eligible for several forms of financial and logistical support from the government and his employer.

Current Status

The bereaved family is currently seeking government intervention to expedite the repatriation of Mr Mirza’s remains. Authorities have assured the family that the necessary procedures to return the body to Bhanga will be facilitated through official channels.
