Manikganj Authorities Seize Eight Thousand Yaba Tablets Locally

In a significant blow to regional narcotics trafficking, the Department of Narcotics Control (DNC), Manikganj District Office, has apprehended two high-profile members of an organised drug syndicate. The operation, which resulted in the recovery of a substantial quantity of illegal stimulants, was conducted in the Singair sub-district of Manikganj. Acting on specific intelligence, the authorities raided a residential property where the contraband was found meticulously concealed.

The operation was carried out under the comprehensive supervision of Humayun Kabir Khondakar, the Deputy Director of the Department of Narcotics Control, Manikganj District Office. The tactical team on the ground was led by Inspector Md. Sumonur Rahman. Following a period of surveillance and the receipt of a confidential tip-off, the unit executed the raid at approximately 04:00 pm in the Palpara area of Joymantop village, situated within the jurisdiction of the Singair Police Station.

Details of the Raid and Contraband Recovery

The raid focused on a semi-permanent (semi-paka) residential structure occupied by the suspects. Upon conducting a thorough search of the premises, officers concentrated on the western room of the building. Inside a wardrobe, hidden within the folds of clothing in the bottom drawer, the team discovered 8,000 pieces of Yaba tablets.

Yaba, a potent mixture of methamphetamine and caffeine, is classified as a highly addictive illegal substance under Bangladeshi law. According to official estimates provided by the Department of Narcotics Control, the seized narcotics possess an approximate market value of 2,400,000 BDT (Twenty-Four Lakh Taka). Based on preliminary investigations, the authorities have categorised the detainees as long-term dealers and traffickers who have been instrumental in the regional distribution of the drug.

Profiles of the Apprehended Individuals

The two suspects were taken into custody at the scene without incident. The individuals have been identified as:

1. Anwar Hossain (35): Son of the late Nokumuddin Sikdar and Monowara Begum. He is a permanent resident of Joymantop Palpara (Ward No. 03), Joymantop Union Parishad, Singair, Manikganj.

2. Mohammad Delwar (40): Son of the late Abdul Malek and the late Nur Begum. His permanent address is listed as Malek Mansion, Anderson Road, Nurpara (Ward No. 03), Cox’s Bazar Municipality, Cox’s Bazar Sadar. At the time of the arrest, he was residing at the same Joymantop Palpara address in Singair, Manikganj.

The presence of a suspect with permanent roots in Cox’s Bazar—a coastal district known as a major gateway for narcotics entering the country—highlights the organised nature of the trafficking route. Investigators believe that Delwar’s connections to the coastal region may have facilitated the procurement of the tablets, while Anwar Hossain provided the logistical base for storage and local distribution within Manikganj.

Legal Proceedings and Departmental Stance

Following the seizure, the Department of Narcotics Control officially filed a criminal case against the duo under the Narcotics Control Act. The suspects have been handed over to the relevant legal authorities for further interrogation and judicial processing.

The DNC has reiterated its commitment to the government’s “zero-tolerance” policy regarding narcotics. This latest seizure is part of an ongoing intensified campaign to dismantle organised drug syndicates operating within the Manikganj district. Officials noted that the successful recovery of such a large volume of Yaba serves as a deterrent to other traffickers and demonstrates the efficacy of intelligence-led policing. Further investigations are underway to identify other associates involved in this specific supply chain.
