Motorcyclist Killed in Begumganj Collision

A 22-year-old motorcyclist was killed and his companion seriously injured after a truck struck their motorcycle in Begumganj Upazila of Noakhali on Thursday afternoon.

The accident occurred at around 1:30 pm on the Lakshmipur–Feni Highway near the area known as Baichar Pol, according to eyewitnesses and highway police officials.

The deceased was identified as Salman, son of the late Milon Mia of Koaria Village under Amanullahpur Union in Begumganj. His companion, Riyad, aged 20, sustained serious injuries in the collision and was taken to Noakhali General Hospital for treatment.

Witnesses said Salman and Riyad were travelling by motorcycle from the Chaumuhani intersection towards Chandraganj when a speeding truck coming from the opposite direction struck them. The impact caused severe damage to the motorcycle, and Salman died at the scene.

Local residents and passers-by gathered immediately after the collision and informed the highway police. Officers from Chandraganj Highway Police later arrived at the scene and carried out recovery operations.

Officer-in-Charge Adel Akbar of Chandraganj Highway Police said police recovered the body and sent it to the morgue for post-mortem examination. He also confirmed that both the truck and the motorcycle involved in the crash had been seized for investigation.

Police have not yet confirmed the exact cause of the accident. No case had been filed in connection with the incident at the time of reporting, according to the police official.

Road accidents involving motorcycles and heavy vehicles are common on regional highways in Bangladesh, particularly on busy inter-district routes. Authorities routinely investigate such incidents to determine liability and whether traffic laws or safety regulations were violated.
