Three individuals, including a grandfather and his grandson, have been killed following lightning strikes in Raninagar Upazila under the Naogaon district. The separate incidents occurred at approximately 12:00 pm on Thursday in the crop fields of Paroil and Guyata Atnitapara villages. Two agricultural labourers died while harvesting paddy, while a young man lost his life whilst retrieving cattle from a field.
Md. Zakaria Mondal, the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Raninagar Police Station, officially confirmed the fatalities resulting from the lightning strikes.
According to local residents and police sources, Akkas Fakir and his grandson, Tarek Fakir, had begun working as agricultural labourers in a paddy field owned by another individual in the Jetha field area of Paroil village on Thursday morning. At around 12:00 pm, heavy rainfall commenced, accompanied by severe lightning. Both individuals were struck by lightning and died at the scene.
In a separate incident at around the same time, rain began to fall in Guyata Atnitapara village. Noyon Talukdar left his residence to retrieve cattle from a nearby field but failed to return home. Later in the afternoon, local residents discovered his body lying in the field. Witnesses reported that his hair and clothing were severely burnt, confirming that his death was caused by a lightning strike.

Following the incidents, local police officials visited both locations to inspect the scenes and prepare the necessary inquest reports. Officer-in-Charge Md. Zakaria Mondal stated that the police administration has documented the occurrences and verified the causes of death through physical evidence and witness testimonies.
The bodies were subsequently recovered from the fields. The local administration and police authorities have coordinated with the bereaved families to complete the required legal formalities before rendering the bodies for final funeral rites.
