In the run-up to Eid-ul-Azha, a striking and unusual case from a cattle market has captured widespread attention in Bangladesh, where a farmer has named his sacrificial bull “Nasir Uddin Patwary” to draw public interest and highlight the animal’s distinctive behaviour.
The black, large-framed bull has become a local attraction at a cattle market after a video of the animal and its owner began circulating on social media on Sunday (24 May). The footage quickly went viral, sparking curiosity, humour, and debate among online users and market visitors alike.
According to the owner, the bull earned its unusual name due to its notably restless and vocal temperament. He explained in the viral video that the animal frequently makes loud noises and becomes agitated, particularly when it is hungry. In his words, the bull “cries out excessively” when its feed is reduced, which led him to name it in a humorous likeness to “Nasir Uddin Patwary”.
The farmer further described the bull’s substantial appetite, stating that it consumes a large quantity of food daily. He claimed that the animal can consume nearly 12 kilograms of rice-based feed in a single serving, in addition to regular grass and straw. Due to its size and feeding requirements, the bull has become one of the more expensive animals in the market, with the owner currently setting its price at around 900,000 taka. He added that he would be willing to sell the bull if this asking price is met.
The viral video has triggered a wave of reactions on Facebook, where users have shared humorous and speculative comments about both the name and behaviour of the animal. Many have engaged in light-hearted banter, turning the bull into an unexpected online sensation ahead of the Eid festival.
