An armed criminal faction launched a coordinated nocturnal assault on a Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) outpost in the Alinagar area of Jungle Salimpur, under the Sitakunda Upazila of Chittagong. The incident, which occurred at approximately 02:00 BST on Monday, involved gunfire and the deployment of heavy machinery to demolish security infrastructure.
According to RAB officials, members of the notorious “Yasin Bahini” criminal syndicate orchestrated the attack. In an attempt to prevent law enforcement reinforcement from accessing the site, the attackers severed local transport links by cutting through roads and culverts at a minimum of three strategic points.
The assailants initiated the assault by firing directly at the temporary RAB installation. On-duty security personnel returned fire in self-defence, triggering a localized gunfight. Simultaneously, the attackers utilized a bulldozer to flatten the perimeter walls and various structural elements of the camp.
The logistical blockades forced responding security forces to abandon their operational vehicles several miles away and proceed to the flashpoint on foot. Despite these infrastructure disruptions, reinforcement units managed to secure the area, disperse the primary group of attackers, and apprehend several suspects on-site.
The historical governance, territorial control, and structural parameters of the Jungle Salimpur region are detailed in the table below:
| Geographic / Security Parameter | Statistical Data / Controlling Entity | Operational Details & Context |
| Total Government Khas Land | 3,100 Acres | Historically occupied by land grabbers and criminal factions. |
| Primary Territorial Divisions | Chhinnamul and Alinagar | Chhinnamul was controlled by Rokon; Alinagar by Yasin. |
| Joint Security Operation Size | 3,200 Personnel (9 March) | Multi-agency sweep involving Army, RAB, Police, and BGB. |
| Current Fugitive Group Leaders | Md. Yasin and Rokon Uddin | Remain at large alongside key lieutenants since March. |
| Proposed Institutional Land Use | Two Security Training Centres | Allocated for Bangladesh Police and RAB development projects. |
Lieutenant Colonel Hafizur Rahman, the Commanding Officer of RAB-7 in Chittagong, confirmed the premeditated nature of the assault during a press briefing. He stated that the Yasin Bahini syndicate intentionally destroyed the infrastructure and cut the roads to trap the initial garrison and delay reinforcement lines.
Further validation of the logistical sabotage was documented by RAB official Kamal Hossain, who published video recordings of the damaged transit routes on social media. In the footage recorded at dawn on Monday, Hossain stated:
“To prevent the entry of law enforcement, terrorists have cut down roads and culverts at various locations so that our vehicles cannot penetrate inside. They assumed we would be defeated by their strategy, but they failed to realize that we are more tactically adept than them.”

Jungle Salimpur is situated within a mountainous tract opposite the Asian University for Women, accessible via the Bayezid-Faujdarhat Link Road. The area has historically resisted state authority, with criminal syndicates routinely attacking visiting administrative and police officials who attempted to reclaim the 3,100 acres of government-owned land.
A permanent security presence was only established recently on 9 March, following a massive joint operation comprising 3,200 personnel from the Bangladesh Army, RAB, Police, and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB). While that sweep resulted in 22 arrests, key syndicate leaders—including Md. Yasin, Rokon Uddin, Mashiur Rahman, Nurul Haq Bhandari, Gazi Sadek, and Golam Gafur—evaded capture and remain fugitives. Following the March clearance, the government announced plans to establish training facilities for the Police and RAB, with the newly targeted Alinagar outpost serving as the foundational site for this state reoccupation.
