A 26-year-old man, identified as Jobayed, was allegedly hacked to death in the Pakundia Upazila of Kishoreganj district. The fatal assault was reportedly triggered by an extramarital affair between the victim and the wife of the primary suspect.
Following the incident, the prime suspect, 38-year-old Md. Rana, was apprehended by law enforcement. Authorities confirmed that Rana has provided an initial confessional statement to the police admitting his involvement in the crime. The suspect is the son of Md. Firoz Miah, a resident of Charpalash village within the same upazila.
According to police and local sources, the incident came to light on Friday night at approximately 20:00. Local residents discovered Jobayed’s blood-stained body lying on the Purpura Bridge in the Shailajani area, located along the Kodalia-Hosenpur paved road.
Upon receiving the notification, a police team dispatched to the scene, recovered the body, and transported it to the Pakundia Upazila Health Complex. The attending physician at the facility pronounced Jobayed dead on arrival. The body was subsequently transferred to the morgue at the Shahid Syed Nazrul Islam Medical College Hospital in Kishoreganj for a post-mortem examination to ascertain the precise cause of death.
Following the discovery, the victim’s father, Altaf Uddin, filed a formal murder case at the Pakundia Police Station on Saturday night. Sub-Inspector (SI) Joni Miah was officially assigned to lead the investigation into the homicide.
Police intelligence led to the swift arrest of the suspect on Saturday morning. Rana was located and detained at a residence in Rahimpur village, situated within the Shahedal Union of the neighbouring Hosenpur Upazila. On Sunday afternoon, the suspect was produced before a local court, which ordered him to be remanded in custody and transferred to prison.

Investigative sources revealed that during police interrogation, Rana disclosed that Jobayed was his maternal cousin. Due to this close family connection, Jobayed developed a close relationship with Rana’s wife, which eventually escalated into an extramarital affair.
Rana stated that he became aware of the relationship approximately two months prior to the incident. At the time, he requested both his wife and Jobayed to terminate the affair; however, Jobayed persisted. This situation resulted in severe marital discord, culminating in Rana’s wife leaving the marital home to return to her paternal residence.
According to Rana’s statement to the police, two days before the celebration of Eid al-Adha, he discovered that his wife was not at her paternal home but was instead staying at Jobayed’s residence. Rana claimed that upon arriving there, he discovered the two individuals in a compromising position. Driven by resentment and a desire for retribution, Rana formulated a plan to assassinate Jobayed.
In accordance with this premeditated plan, on Friday night—the day after Eid al-Adha—Rana called Jobayed out of his house and lured him to the Purpura Bridge in the Shailajani area. Once at the isolated location, Rana attacked Jobayed with a sharp weapon, inflicting fatal chop wounds before fleeing the scene.
Commenting on the progress of the case on Sunday afternoon, the investigating officer, SI Md. Joni Miah, confirmed that Rana had been sent to prison via court order. He added that the police are conducting further enquiries to establish whether any other individuals were complicit in planning or executing the homicide.
