The Detective Branch (DB) of the Jashore District Police has arrested Kamrul Islam, a notorious local criminal widely known as ‘Khora Kamrul’. The 47-year-old suspect, who faces 20 pending criminal charges including murder and firearms offences, was apprehended following a targeted operation. Police sources confirmed that Kamrul is the son of Abdul Aziz, residing in the Kholadanga suburb of Jashore.
The official announcement regarding the arrest was made during a press briefing held on Sunday morning (31 May) at the office of the Jashore District Superintendent of Police. Addressing the media, Mirajul Islam, the Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime and Operations), provided the operational details that led to the capture of the high-profile fugitive.
According to the police briefing, the breakthrough came after an earlier law enforcement operation on 6 April. On that date, police arrested two individuals, identified as Khalidur Rahman Titu and Sheikh Moinuddin Ferdous, in connection with a firearms case filed at the Kotwali Police Station. Following extensive interrogation of these two suspects, investigators uncovered concrete evidence linking Khora Kamrul directly to the seized weapons.
Armed with this actionable intelligence, the police initiated a manhunt to locate the suspect. The operation culminated on Saturday afternoon (30 May), when a DB police team raided a rented property in the Missionpara area of Jashore municipality, successfully taking Kamrul into custody.
Senior police officials have designated Kamrul as a major perpetrator of violent crime and a key figure in the regional underworld. Investigations reveal that he has been acting as a primary supplier of illegal firearms and explosives for various criminal activities within the town. Furthermore, authorities stated that he is directly involved in an illicit arms trading syndicate operating across Jashore and its neighbouring districts.
An analysis of his criminal record at the Kotwali Police Station reveals an extensive history of serious offences. A breakdown of the 20 active cases currently pending against Kamrul Islam is detailed in the table below:
| Nature of Criminal Charge | Number of Pending Cases |
| Murder | 1 |
| Firearms Offences (Arms Act) | 6 |
| Explosives Offences | 4 |

The Jashore District Police emphasised that the arrest of such a prominent suspect represents a significant step forward in curbing the proliferation of illegal weapons and explosives in the region. Legal proceedings against Kamrul Islam are currently underway, and investigators are processing the evidence to ensure all cases move forward in court. Local authorities reiterated their commitment to maintaining public safety and stated that rigorous anti-crime operations would continue throughout the district to neutralise criminal syndicates.
