Forty-One Bangladeshi Pilgrims Die this year During Hajj Pilgrimage

Official records from the Ministry of Religious Affairs have confirmed the deaths of two additional Bangladeshi nationals in Saudi Arabia while performing the Hajj pilgrimage. The fatalities, which occurred on Sunday, 31 May 2026, were documented on the ministry’s official Hajj Management Portal. With these latest passings, the total number of Bangladeshi pilgrim deaths during the current Hajj season has risen to 41.

Breakdown of Recent and Total Casualties

The two individuals who died on Sunday have been identified as Mohammad Abdul Majid and Mohammad Shahjahan Ali. Mohammad Abdul Majid was a resident of the Naogaon district and passed away in Medina. Mohammad Shahjahan Ali hailed from the Khilgaon neighbourhood of Dhaka and died in Mecca.

This year’s main Hajj rituals took place on 26 May 2026. The deployment of pilgrims from Bangladesh began with the commencement of outbound Hajj flights on 18 April 2026, concluding on 21 May 2026.

Following the conclusion of the pilgrimage, the return phase started on 30 May 2026 and is scheduled to operate until 30 June 2026. According to the ministry’s data up to Sunday, a total of 11,613 pilgrims have already arrived back in Bangladesh.

In total, approximately 78,500 Bangladeshi citizens journeyed to Saudi Arabia for the pilgrimage this year. The distribution of these pilgrims across management systems is outlined below:

• State-Arranged Management: 4,565 pilgrims travelled under government arrangements.

• Private-Agency Management: 73,935 pilgrims travelled through authorised private travel operators.

Figures released by the Saudi Arabian Ministry of Hajj and Umrah indicate that the global attendance for this year’s pilgrimage exceeded 1.5 million Muslims arriving from various nations worldwide.
