Brazil commenced their final phase of World Cup preparations in emphatic fashion with a dominant goal-scoring display at Rio de Janeiro’s historic Maracanã Stadium, defeating Panama 6–2. The home side asserted their attacking intent from the outset, scoring six times whilst conceding two goals, one of which was an own goal.
Brazil adopted an aggressive tactical approach from the opening whistle, breaking the deadlock in the second minute when Vinícius Júnior found the back of the net. However, Panama managed to equalise against the run of play when a free-kick delivered by Michael Amir Murillo deflected off Brazilian forward Matheus Cunha and rolled past the goalkeeper into the net for an own goal.
The hosts quickly regained control of the tempo. Experienced midfielder Casemiro executed a clinical finish to restore Brazil’s advantage, allowing the home team to head into the half-time interval with a 2–1 lead.
Following the break, the Brazilian head coach utilised the full depth of his squad to assess options and strategies ahead of the tournament. The attacking pressure proved overwhelming for the Panamanian defensive line, which began to commit critical errors.
The young forward Rayan capitalised on a defensive blunder to extend the lead. Shortly after, Lucas Paquetá fired a shot that deflected off Panama’s José Córdoba and bypassed the goalkeeper. Brazil added a fifth when Igor Thiago calmly converted a penalty, before defender Danilo completed the hosts’ six-goal tally with a sharp turn and precise finish inside the opposition penalty area.
Panama did manage a final consolation goal when Carlos Harvey struck a remarkable long-range shot into the top corner. Despite that moment, Panama remained largely contained by Brazil’s passing and clinical finishing. Brazil concluded the fixture with 14 total shots and an expected goals (xG) metric of 2.26.
