A multi-vehicle accident in the Barabkunda area of Sitakunda, Chittagong, has resulted in the death of a female pedestrian and left at least ten others injured. The collision, which involved a passenger bus, a lorry, a microbus, and a CNG-powered auto-rickshaw, occurred on Sunday, 31 May 2026, at approximately 21:15 BST on the Chittagong-bound lane of the Dhaka-Chittagong Highway.

Incident Overview and Casualty Details

The deceased pedestrian has been identified as 45-year-old Zaria Begum, the wife of Jaharul Alam, from the Miyajibari locality within the Barabkunda union. Law enforcement officials from the highway police recovered her body from the scene of the accident.

The collision also caused injuries to at least ten passengers across the involved vehicles. Emergency services transported the injured individuals to the local Upazila Health Complex for initial medical attention. Following an assessment of their conditions, six patients required more advanced clinical care and were subsequently transferred to Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH).

Sub-Inspector (SI) Mohammad Milton Mondal of the Bar Aulia Highway Police Station confirmed the details of the crash and the subsequent casualties. He reported that the positioning of the damaged vehicles across the carriageway caused immediate gridlock, resulting in extensive tailbacks along the national highway.

To resolve the traffic disruption, highway police personnel arrived at the site to conduct recovery operations. The four compromised vehicles were systematically towed away from the main lanes, clearing the debris and allowing normal traffic flow to resume on the Chittagong-bound route.
