A teenage boy was fatally stabbed following a dispute over a trivial matter in Adittamari upazila of Lalmonirhat district, leaving the local community in shock and mourning.
The victim, identified as 18-year-old Liakat Ali Ladan, son of Ashraful Haque from Balatari village under Sarpukur Union, was attacked on Monday evening (8 June) near a shop adjacent to Sarpukur Primary School. Police confirmed that the assault stemmed from an escalating personal conflict between two local groups.
According to police and eyewitness accounts, the incident traces back to a minor altercation that occurred recently between Ladan and the younger son of a local resident, Juel, from Magurerpar area. The disagreement reportedly involved verbal abuse and a heated exchange of insults, which later intensified into a broader feud between the families.
Although local elders attempted to mediate the dispute through a reconciliation meeting earlier in the evening, the effort proved tragically unsuccessful. Shortly after the meeting concluded, the fatal attack took place.
Family members of the deceased stated that Ladan had gone to the area near Gaffar’s shop around 8 pm when he was ambushed. His relative, Jahidul Islam Zakir, said that Juel and his son Roki had been lying in wait. They allegedly launched a sudden and brutal attack from behind, repeatedly stabbing him before fleeing the scene.
Hearing his screams, local residents rushed to the spot and found Ladan critically injured. He was immediately taken to Lalmonirhat Sadar Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries around 9 pm while undergoing treatment.
The attending physician at the hospital’s emergency department, Dr Imrul Hasan, confirmed that the young man was brought in with severe stab wounds and was declared dead shortly after arrival.

Relatives, including the victim’s uncle Fazlar Rahman Farid, along with other residents, condemned the attack and demanded the immediate arrest of those responsible, calling for exemplary punishment through legal channels.
Officer-in-Charge of Adittamari Police Station, Nazmul Haque, stated that law enforcement teams had visited the scene shortly after being informed. He added that preparations are underway to file a formal murder case, and police operations are ongoing to apprehend the suspects, who remain on the run.
The incident has once again highlighted rising concerns over the escalation of minor disputes into fatal violence in rural communities, prompting renewed calls for stronger mediation mechanisms and swift law enforcement action.
