The untimely demise of Dr Dhipra Tabassum has brought critical issues surrounding domestic abuse and mental health into the public domain. Reports indicate that following childbirth, Dr Tabassum suffered from postpartum depression—a condition triggered by hormonal fluctuations—and was undergoing medical treatment for the illness.
According to the disclosed information, Dr Tabassum faced persistent abuse and a complete lack of domestic support from her immediate family members. Her partner, who is also a medical doctor, is alleged to have been abusive. Furthermore, her parents-in-law reportedly subjected her to a similar level of mistreatment.
Despite the family’s high educational and professional standing, it is reported that Dr Tabassum was denied basic human dignity within the household. Her maternal family was also unable to provide an adequate support system; her mother suffers from schizophrenia, whilst her father and brother reportedly failed to offer any assistance during her period of distress.
