Mexico City: 11 June

The tournament officially begins in Mexico City, where the host nation, Mexico, faces South Africa in the opening match. Prior to kick-off at the Mexico City Stadium, the formal opening ceremony will showcase Mexican heritage. The event features performances by indigenous artists, modern folk displays, and a visual exhibition of “Papel Picado”—the traditional Mexican craft of decoratively cut paper.

Musically, Shakira and Nigerian artist Burna Boy will perform “Dai Dai”, a track translating to “Let’s Go”. Shakira is also scheduled to perform during the half-time interval of the World Cup Final on 19 July, where she will be joined by Madonna and the K-pop group BTS.

Additionally, musicians featured on the official FIFA World Cup album will perform in Mexico City. The line-up comprises Alejandro Fernández, Belinda, Danny Ocean, J Balvin, Lila Downs, Los Ángeles Azules, Maná, and South African singer-songwriter Tyla. To mark the occasion, local authorities have declared 11 June a public holiday in Mexico City. Access to the stadium perimeter remains strictly restricted to ticket holders, accredited media personnel, and authorized individuals.

Toronto: 12 June

On the second day of the festivities, Canada will play its opening match against Bosnia and Herzegovina in Toronto. The pre-match opening ceremony is structured to highlight the multicultural diversity of Canada through curated musical arrangements.

The performance roster for the Canadian segment includes Alanis Morissette, Alessia Cara, Elley Duhé, Jessie Reyez, Michael Bublé, Nora Fatehi, Vegedream, William Prince, and DJ Sanjoy.

Los Angeles: 12 June

Concurrently, the United States will initiate its World Cup campaign against Paraguay in California. The Los Angeles Stadium will host the third regional opening ceremony prior to the match. The American event features a heavily pop- and hip-hop-centric line-up, with scheduled performances from Katy Perry, Future, Anitta, Lisa, Rema, and Tyla.
