Cricket Board Demands Full Inquiry Into Player Assault

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has initiated an administrative response following the physical assault and harassment of national off-spinner Nayeem Hasan. In an official public statement issued on Saturday morning, the governing body expressed its deep concern regarding the conduct of law enforcement personnel in Chittagong on Friday night. The board reiterated its firm stance on defending the structural rights, institutional welfare, and personal dignity of all national team players.

The BCB has treated the incident with maximum urgency, demanding a neutral, comprehensive, and rapid investigation by the state authorities. Board officials noted that the hostile treatment of a national sportsman is completely unacceptable and necessitates immediate accountability for those responsible.

The governing body confirmed that its senior management has been in continuous communication with the 26-year-old spinner and his family since the details of the assault emerged. The BCB is currently providing full administrative and legal support to ensure the player’s safety and well-being.

“An unacceptable and inappropriate encounter with a national cricketer is highly regrettable,” the BCB communique stated. “The board views this matter with the utmost seriousness and believes that a swift and proper investigation into such an incident is necessary. The physical abuse occurred after Hasan arrived at Chittagong airport on a flight from Dhaka, where he had been competing in the domestic Dhaka Premier League tournament. To complete the final leg of his journey home, the cricketer hired a commercial three-wheeled auto-rickshaw (CNG).

As the vehicle approached the entrance of the Lalkhan Bazar flyover, it was intercepted by individuals identifying themselves as officers from the Detective Branch (DB). Hasan was pulled from the auto-rickshaw and forced into a stationary police vehicle. The bowler confirmed that the officers proceeded to physically assault and berate him, ignoring his statements even after he explicitly identified himself as an international cricketer representing Bangladesh.
