A businessman has died in Dinajpur’s Bochaganj upazila after sustaining severe injuries in an attack allegedly involving his former wife, according to police and local officials.
The deceased, Mohammad Mostafizur Rahman, proprietor of the DN Auto Rice Mill, was reportedly attacked on Sunday afternoon (14 June) in the Ramdaspara area under Setabganj Municipality in Bochaganj. Witness accounts and preliminary police information indicate that his legs were injured by having tendons cut during the incident, leaving him critically wounded.
Mostafizur Rahman, son of the late Dr Niaz Uddin of Setabganj Municipality, was immediately taken to Bochaganj Upazila Health Complex for emergency treatment. Due to the severity of his condition, he was later transferred to the Dinajpur Zia Heart Foundation for advanced medical care. Despite medical efforts, he died on Monday (15 June) at approximately 10:30 a.m.
Following the incident, law enforcement officials visited the scene to investigate the circumstances. The team included Assistant Superintendent of Police (Kaharol Circle) Moniruzzaman and Officer-in-Charge of Bochaganj Police Station Mizanur Rahman.
Authorities stated that initial findings suggest a history of personal disputes between the victim and his former wife, identified as Shilpi. Police also noted that the victim had ongoing interactions and movement in the area where the incident occurred.
Law enforcement has confirmed that the suspect has already been taken into custody through Kotwali Police Station for preliminary questioning. However, officials emphasised that the exact motive, involvement of others, and the full sequence of events remain under active investigation.
Police have not yet released further details regarding whether additional suspects may be involved or whether the attack was premeditated. Investigators are continuing to collect evidence from the scene and interview potential witnesses.
