In Sadarpur Upazila, an individual has been fined BDT 50,000 and equipment seized for illegally extracting sand from a government canal using a dredging machine. The mobile court operation was conducted by the Upazila administration on Monday (15 June) in the afternoon near Akot Bazar area of Akoterchar Union.
The enforcement drive was led by the Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land), Rifat Anjum Piya, who acted as the executive magistrate during the mobile court proceedings.
According to local sources, a group had been engaged for a prolonged period in extracting sand illegally from government canals in various parts of Akoterchar Union. Following verification, the mobile court imposed a fine of BDT 50,000 on the individual responsible under the provisions of the Sand and Soil Management Act, 2010. In addition to the financial penalty, the dredging equipment used in the operation was confiscated on the spot.
Officials stated that safeguarding the natural flow of rivers and canals is a key administrative priority, and that such enforcement actions are intended to prevent unauthorised extraction activities that may damage local ecosystems and public resources.
