An eight-year-old female student was allegedly lured and sexually assaulted whilst on her way to a morning madrasah (maktab) in the Sreemangal Upazila of Moulvibazar. Incident Background and Modus Operandi

According to information provided by law enforcement officials and relatives of the victim, the child departed from her residence at approximately 6:30 am on Tuesday to attend religious lessons at a local mosque-based maktab. Whilst she was traversing the route toward the mosque, the suspect, Anwar, intercepted her.

The victim’s relatives stated that the suspect used deceptive means to lure the child away from the public path and guided her into an abandoned, vacant house situated adjacent to the thoroughfare. Once inside the isolated structure, Anwar allegedly subjected the minor to sexual assault. Following the attack, the child returned to her family residence and narrated the details of the ordeal to her guardians. Upon discovering her critical physical condition, her family immediately evacuated her to the Moulvibazar Sadar Hospital.

Upon hearing the victim’s account, local residents mobilised to locate the perpetrator. They successfully cornered and detained Anwar before alerting the Sreemangal Thana Police. A police contingent arrived shortly thereafter to take formal custody of the suspect.
