Madrasah Teacher Dismissed Following Child Abuse Allegations

An Ebtedayee madrasah and hefzkhana teacher, identified as Md. Shahin Uddin, aged 31, has been permanently dismissed from his position following allegations of molesting a female student in the Fatikchhari Upazila of Chittagong. The decision was finalised during an emergency disciplinary meeting convened at the madrasah administrative office at approximately 11:30 am on Monday, 15 June.

Incident Background and Suspect Profile

The accused individual, Md. Shahin Uddin, is the son of the late Badiul Alam and resides in the Paschim Hasnad area under Ward 5 of the Datmara Union within Fatikchhari Upazila. He was employed as an instructor at the local Khillapara Hazrat Abdul Qader Jilani (R.) Ebtedayee Madrasah and Hefzkhana.

According to statements from the madrasah’s governing body and local residents, the incident transpired on Sunday, 14 June, during active school hours. The teacher allegedly molested a female student enrolled in the second grade. Following the incident, the distressed students reported the inappropriate behavior to their respective families, prompting immediate parental intervention.

Emergency Arbitration and Institutional Response

In response to the formal complaints submitted by the families, the madrasah management organized an emergency arbitration hearing on Monday morning. During the proceedings, the institutional board cross-examined both the accused teacher and the affected students. The internal inquiry verified the validity of the allegations.

Following the admission of the facts, the governing board, in coordination with the assembled parents, extracted a written undertaking (muchleka) from Md. Shahin Uddin and issued an order for his immediate, permanent termination from the institution. Journalists subsequently attempted to contact the accused via his mobile telephone number, but he remained unavailable for comment.

Statements from Institutional and Political Officials

The expatriate guardian of one of the students expressed profound distress regarding the compromise of safety within the classroom, demanding exemplary legal punishment for the instructor.

Maulana Nazim Uddin, the Director of the madrasah, verified the administrative measures, stating: “An instructor from our madrasah has committed a highly unpleasant and undesirable act. We have made no compromises regarding the safety of our minor students and the preservation of a proper educational environment. An undertaking was taken from the accused teacher, and he was immediately and permanently expelled from the madrasah.”

Separately, local rumours emerged on Tuesday, 16 June, suggesting that the terminated teacher was attempting to secure political asylum to evade consequences. This claim was formally rejected by Hasan Shamsuddin, the President of the local ward chapter of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami.

Hasan Shamsuddin clarified: “Md. Shahin Uddin was never an activist or a responsible official of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami. He has no organizational connection with the party. On behalf of Jamaat-e-Islami, we strongly condemn this heinous crime and demand exemplary punishment for him.”
