The body of a 28-year-old man, who is believed to have been killed during a robbery attack in Brahmanbaria’s Nabiganj upazila, was recovered two days later from the banks of the Meghna River in Narsingdi. The deceased, identified as Rifat, was discovered on Tuesday evening in a bushy area near Kandapara Zero Point in Rasulpur village under Narsingdi Sadar upazila.
According to naval police and local witnesses, the body was spotted by a group of farmers who were grazing goats along the riverbank. Upon noticing the body lying concealed in dense vegetation, they immediately informed the authorities. A team from the naval police outpost later arrived at the scene and recovered the remains. Following an initial examination, the body was sent to the morgue of Narsingdi Sadar Hospital for post-mortem procedures.
Police confirmed that multiple injury marks were visible on different parts of the body, suggesting that the victim had suffered violent trauma prior to death. The deceased was later identified by his sister, Mukta Begum, who visited the morgue after hearing reports of a recovered body in the area.
Mukta Begum stated that on Sunday night, around 11:30 pm, a group of armed robbers attacked their village in Thollakandi of Nabiganj upazila. During the incident, Rifat was reportedly shot and killed. She further alleged that the attackers removed the body from the scene and fled, leaving the family unaware of its whereabouts until its discovery in Narsingdi.
She also claimed that the robbers deliberately dumped the body in a remote riverbank area to conceal evidence of the killing. The family intends to file a formal case after completing funeral arrangements.
Law enforcement officials have indicated that they are investigating the incident from multiple angles. Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime) Sujon Chandra Sarkar said preliminary findings suggest that the body was transported and abandoned in the Karimpur area along the Meghna River in Narsingdi after the killing in Brahmanbaria. Legal procedures and further investigation are currently underway to identify those responsible.
