Four individuals have died from suspected measles across the country within the last 24 hours. The updated epidemiological data was disclosed in an official press release issued on Wednesday, 17 June, by the control room of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
According to the figures provided by the health authority, a total of 966 new suspected measles cases were identified nationwide during the 24-hour reporting period. Concurrently, laboratory evaluations and clinical assessments confirmed measles infections in 111 individuals within the same timeframe.
The DGHS clarified that while four fatalities occurred among those with suspected symptoms, no deaths were recorded from laboratory-confirmed measles cases during these specific 24 hours.
The DGHS press release provided a comprehensive overview of the outbreak spanning from 15 March to 17 June. Over this three-month period, the aggregate number of suspected measles cases recorded across the country reached 88,895. Out of this cumulative total, the number of clinically and laboratory-confirmed measles cases stands at 10,634.
Hospitalisation records maintained by the health directorate indicate that between 15 March and 17 June, a total of 73,277 patients showing symptoms of suspected measles required indoor hospital treatment. Among those admitted, 69,688 individuals have fully recovered and have been officially discharged from various healthcare facilities nationwide.
The long-term statistical data highlights a significant impact on pediatric demographics. Between 15 March and 17 June, a cumulative total of 568 children succumbed to illnesses classified as suspected measles. Furthermore, during the identical period, another 93 children lost their lives to cases explicitly confirmed as measles through definitive medical testing.
