Two journalists working for the Kushtia-published daily newspaper, Dainik Khaborwala, were unexpectedly assaulted by miscreants whilst performing their professional duties in the East Mojampur area of Ward No. 18 within Kushtia Municipality.

The incident took place on Wednesday, 17 June 2026, at approximately 2:50 pm, near a location locally known as “Tetul Tala” on Mofiz Uddin Biswas Lane. One journalist sustained severe injuries and is currently receiving medical treatment at the Kushtia 250-Bed General Hospital. During the attack, the perpetrators looted professional equipment, mobile phones, and cash, with the total value of the stolen property reported to be 184,932 BDT.

Identity of the Victims and Context of the Assault

The affected media professionals have been identified as Mr Md. Imran Hossain, a video journalist for Dainik Khaborwala, and Mr Md. Ronjuur Rahman, a special correspondent for the same publication. According to eyewitness accounts and the statements provided by the victims, the two journalists had gone to the property of a local resident, Mr Md. Reza Chowdhury, in Ward No. 18. Their objective was to investigate and gather information regarding alleged irregularities in the construction of a residential boundary wall.

Whilst they were collecting news materials, an armed group led by Mr Md. Reza Chowdhury and Mr Md. Selim Chowdhury, alongside 10 to 12 unidentified individuals, launched an unprovoked attack. The assailants were armed with various domestic weapons, including hoes, GI pipes, rod cutters, hammers, and iron bars.

Injuries Sustained and Extent of Financial Robbery

During the confrontation, video journalist Imran Hossain was struck on the head, causing a severe laceration and substantial blood loss. The attackers also physically assaulted special correspondent Ronjuur Rahman, delivering punches and kicks, whilst subjecting him to verbal abuse and explicit death threats.

Due to the severity of his head trauma, Mr Imran Hossain was admitted to Ward No. 10 of the Kushtia 250-Bed General Hospital, where he remains under medical observation. The victims have expressed a profound sense of insecurity following the encounter. They noted that preparations are underway to file a formal First Information Report (FIR) at the Kushtia Model Police Station to initiate criminal proceedings.
