A tragic road accident on the Dhaka–Chittagong Highway in Dhaka–Chittagong Highway has left a bus supervisor dead following a head-on collision between two passenger coaches in the early hours of Friday.
The incident occurred at approximately 4:30am in the Hazi Sardar area of Chouddagram, within the Comilla district. According to highway police, the crash took place during a risky overtaking manoeuvre involving two intercity buses travelling in opposite directions.
The deceased has been identified as 50-year-old Md. Alamgir Hossain, a supervisor employed by Shyamoli N R Travels. He was a resident of Rajanaranpur village under Aminpur Police Station in Pabna district. Police confirmed that he died on the spot due to severe impact injuries sustained in the collision.
Preliminary findings from Mia Bazar Highway Police suggest that a Chattogram-to-Dhaka bound Shyamoli N R Travels coach was proceeding along the highway when a Saint Martin Souhardya Paribahan bus travelling ahead reportedly attempted to pull over to the left side of the road without giving any proper signal. The sudden and unanticipated movement is believed to have triggered the collision, leaving little time for evasive action.
Emergency responders and highway police quickly arrived at the scene following reports from passing motorists. The body of the deceased was later recovered and sent for legal formalities. Both buses involved in the crash have been seized for technical inspection as part of the ongoing investigation.
Authorities have stated that legal proceedings are underway to determine liability and whether traffic regulations were breached by either driver. Despite the severity of the incident, officials confirmed that vehicular movement on the highway returned to normal shortly after the damaged vehicles were cleared from the roadway.
