Banking Stability Assurance Statement Issued

Islami Bank Bangladesh PLC has issued a precautionary notice aimed at restoring operational stability and rebuilding public confidence, following recent concerns surrounding liquidity pressures and customer behaviour. The bank emphasised that its financial operations are gradually returning to normal, supported by liquidity assistance provided by the central bank.

In a statement released on Saturday, 20 June, the institution confirmed that transaction activities across its network are now functioning in a largely normalised manner. The management attributed this improvement to coordinated regulatory support and internal corrective measures designed to stabilise day-to-day banking operations.

The notice also strongly warned against any attempts to disrupt normal banking activities or create disorder within the institution. It stated that any actions intended to destabilise operations would be treated as criminal offences under applicable banking laws. The bank further clarified that legal measures would be taken against individuals or groups involved in such activities, in accordance with the Banking Companies Act and other relevant regulations.

According to individuals familiar with the situation, recent rumours and concerns regarding liquidity had contributed to a temporary increase in customer anxiety. This led to a surge in withdrawal requests as depositors sought to access their funds simultaneously. However, officials indicated that the situation has improved significantly following intervention by the central bank and enhanced liquidity support mechanisms.

The central bank, Bangladesh Bank, is understood to have played a key stabilising role by extending necessary liquidity assistance, enabling the banking system to meet withdrawal demands and maintain continuity of services. Meanwhile, Islami Bank Bangladesh PLC has implemented a series of internal measures aimed at strengthening cash flow management, improving customer communication, and ensuring uninterrupted transactional services.

Summary of Key Developments

Area Situation Reported Current Status Measures Taken
Liquidity Position Temporary pressure due to withdrawals Stabilising Central bank liquidity support
Customer Confidence Affected by rumours and uncertainty Improving gradually Public clarification and notice issued
Banking Operations Risk of disruption reported Largely normalised Operational adjustments and monitoring
Legal Safeguards Potential for unlawful disruption Strict warning issued Enforcement under banking laws

The bank reiterated its commitment to safeguarding depositor interests and maintaining financial discipline across its operations. It also urged customers to rely only on verified information and avoid responding to unverified claims that could contribute to unnecessary panic.

Overall, the statement reflects an effort by both the bank and regulatory authorities to restore confidence in the institution and ensure stability within the broader financial system.
