The 15-year-old Indian cricketer, Vaibhav Suryavanshi, has established a new world record in 50-over cricket by scoring a half-century in just 11 balls. This feat stands as the fastest fifty recorded in the history of List A cricket. Suryavanshi achieved this milestone playing for India ‘A’ against Sri Lanka ‘A’ in the final of the tri-nation series held in Dambulla. The tournament featured the ‘A’ teams of the host nation Sri Lanka, India, and Afghanistan.
This performance follows a controversial incident involving Suryavanshi earlier in the tournament. During a match against Sri Lanka on 15 June, which India lost, the young batsman faced criticism after physically pushing Sri Lankan player Vishen Halambage. However, in the final match against the same opponents, Suryavanshi delivered a record-breaking performance.
By reaching his half-century in 11 balls, Suryavanshi surpassed the previous List A record held by Sri Lankan cricketer Kaushal Lokuarachchi (referred to in local reports as Kaushal Weeraratne), who scored a 12-ball fifty in 2005. Notably, Suryavanshi, who was born in the Indian state of Bihar, was born six years after the previous record had been established.
During his 11-ball blitz to reach the fifty-run mark, Suryavanshi managed to score boundaries on 10 of those deliveries, which included five sixes. He faced only one dot ball during this sequence. Following his rapid half-century, the batsman continued his aggressive approach and approached a century. However, his innings was cut short when he offered a catch to mid-off off the bowling of Sahan Arachchige, departing for 94 runs off just 29 balls. His total innings comprised 10 boundaries and 8 sixes.
The details of the fastest half-centuries in List A cricket history, focusing on the top two records, are summarised in the table below:
| Player Name | Team Represented | Balls Taken for Fifty | Total Runs Scored in Inning | Boundaries / Sixes in Inning | Opponent & Venue | Year of Achievement |
| Vaibhav Suryavanshi | India ‘A’ | 11 | 94 (29 balls) | 10 fours, 8 sixes | Sri Lanka ‘A’, Dambulla | 2026 |
| Kaushal Lokuarachchi | Sri Lanka | 12 | N/A | N/A | N/A | 2005 |
The WDB data alongside international cricket databases confirm that this feat represents an official shift in the historical leaderboard of limited-overs domestic and international ‘A’ cricket, placing the teenager from Bihar at the top of this statistical category.
